NGOs similar to Nalam are struggling to capture and sustain donor interest. Their current strategy, which relies heavily on local offline touchpoints and word-of-mouth, is proving inefficient, and despite having a website, digital engagement and actual donations are notably low.

HOW WE GET THERE

A CRISIS OF ENGAGEMENT IN NGO FUNDRAISING

Young Donors Question Trust and Reward in NGO Engagement

To gain deeper insights, we spoke with NALAM Founders who aim to empower vulnerable girls in South India but struggle to attract young American donors for expensive projects.

  1. Their outreach is limited to inefficient local events.

  2. Many young professionals seek transparent, rewarding ways to contribute.

DESIGN SPRINT 1

With the initial needs from users and the research findings from online resources. We started to quickly design and test with our initial concept.

Donors want to have more details about the beneficiaries

We could use mapping to visualize the real impact

We build the mapping as our main feature

Light up donated projects on the map enhances user experience

DESIGN SPRINT 2

The second design sprint aims to:

  1. Redesign the Donation map's presentation and filtering capabilities.

  2. Create a better way for users to track and understand their donation progress and notifications.

  3. Refining the payment process and adding details to present little girls' identities in a way that protects their privacy but feels immersive and interactive.

Therefore, we've enhanced the 'light up' interaction, added positive feedback for emotional connections, and included detailed design elements to boost credibility.

According to user feedback and research findings, we designed a map view on our main page and also provided a project gallery to present more details about beneficiaries and projects.

FINAL DESIGN

The goals of final design is to:

  1. Develop a method to efficiently filter projects and beneficiaries without allowing the selection of specific beneficiaries.

  2. Continue to refine the payment process to enhance user engagement.

  3. Design a clearer homepage that better aligns with user expectations.

Therefore, we utilized multi-device designs including the Apple Watch and improved the filtering system to increase donor engagement while ensuring the privacy of the beneficiaries.

According to user feedback and research findings, we designed a map view on our main page and also provided a project gallery to present more details about beneficiaries and projects.

Final Screens

In the latest design update:

  1. Included watch and desktop widgets for quick donor access to project updates, enhancing engagement.

  2. Positioned the light-up map under the project and beneficiaries for easy access to key features and visual impact assessment.

  3. Updated the detail interface’s gallery with more project processes and information details, showcasing the beneficiaries and providing an immersive interaction.

  4. Added technological protection for every donation.

  5. Removed the filter to search beneficiaries, allowing only project searches.
